For single-handed loading and unloading of my 18 foot Triak hull (kayak) onto my Chevy SUV, here's what works for loading (just reverse the process for unloading.) Use beach dolly to position boat so that aft end is straight back from roof rack rollers. Bow of boat is beside the vehicle, so that a point about two or three feet back from the bow is abeam the aft roof rack. Eventually you're going to lift the bow sideways onto the rear rack (rollers or slide pads). Lift the aft end of the boat, and place a stand under the stern, quite far back. Lift the bow, and place a stand a couple of feet behind the bow. Using a two-step ladder placed beside the vehicle right at the bow, lift the bow up onto the rear rack or rollers. Then just go back to the stern and push the boat forward all the way onto the roof racks. The stands are also perfect for keeping the boat at the right height for cleaning, maintenance, and storage. Review: Only for Very Narrow Kayaks! - These racks are very narrow. When I tried to put my Wilderness Tsunami 145 on them, the big knot of webbing at the top of each saddle presses on the hull. The only way around this is to put the racks toward the extreme ends of the kayak--something Wilderness tells you specifically NOT to do because the hull will distort over time. When I tried to return them to desertcart, they said I had to go through Outdoorplay to return them, the seller where they are actually shipped from. I don't know if that will be a hassle or not--stay tuned. UPDATE 8/22/11: Outdoor Play took the return with no problem. There was no such warning from the manufacturer. My fiberglass canoe dropped on one end & caused the other end to fall, damaging the paint!
