The pages are pretty thin, however I wrote with a fine point fountain pen and it had a very minor bleed through but definitely didn't make the reverse side unusable. No bleed at all with a regular pen. I didn't notice the strap on the outside to hold the book closed, personally I don't like it but I know other people do. It does have a silk bookmark attached. 4 stars because it does not lay flat like advertised, doesn't even try to. It closes immediately if you don't hold the left side down. Once you flip enough pages so the left side has more than the right, it closes to the left. If you're looking for a lay-flat notebook specifically then this is not the one you want. The journal weights very little because of the paper that is used. It is not Tomoe River Paper but feel very close to it. The notebook has a back pocket to store bits and bobs.I do have to mention that the grid lines are dark. I don't mind because it helps with my handwriting. The top of each page has 3 tiny rows for: Month, Day and Date. You would need a super extra fine highlighter to use to mark them. The notebook also has a durable closing strap which keeps the notebook from curling up over time. My friend's daughter really loves the notebook. My only small wish is that there could be more choices for cover colors. In particular I was hoping there's pink.
