It's cased in aluminum and plastic body and the cable (copper braiding) is highly flexible which makes it easy to hold into in the hand. Since it's lightweight you shouldn't expect it to tug either. The 3.5mm jack produces better sound than the Essential's OEM adapter (96kHz vs 48kHz), and charging is still plenty fast with it. This is the only option on the market right now (that I'm aware) for an adapter that lets you charge your USB-C device and use your wired headphones - and it works.I have noticed some problems with the adapter though and even though they won't really affect you when you're using the adapter to listen to music, videos, or any sound coming from your device, they are still problems none-the-less. I've had the adapter replaced once already and it was a very quick and easy process, but since the second adapter had the same problems, I'm assuming it's the same for all stock (at least right now).The first problem I had was when you switch screens or apps and you have a pair of headphones plugged in, you may notice some brief interference. There's usually a "pop" sound followed by a second or two of static/white noise. I found the noise to vary depending on the headphones that are plugged in, but using 5 different brands I heard the noise in each pair. You'll only notice it when you're switching between screens that don't have volume playing though, so while the adapter is "in-use" you shouldn't have a problem.The second problem also had to do when the screen you're on isn't playing any volume. Occasionally there will be a rapid digital "beeping" sound. The noise takes a little longer to go away than the static, but if you wait long enough on the same screen it will (or you can replug your headphones and it may go away). This noise doesn't happen 100% of the time and I found it to be kind of random. It hasn't affected me while sound is playing though. I should also mention that this beeping noise also shows up sometimes when the adapter is plugged into the wall, but not the phone. As long as the adapter is drawing power from somewhere (phone, wall or both), there's a chance you may hear this noise.I'm rating this a 3/5 for now, but if you plan on using this "as-needed" and not as a replacement for your original manufacturer's 3.5mm adapter, it will work well. I'm just someone who has my wired headphones plugged in all the time whether I'm using them or not, so all the minor background noises can be kind of annoying. If the creator of this adapter ever decides to update the adapter to fix these issues (and I hope he does), I'll update my review. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Finally can charge and connect headphones at the same time! *by I***Y on Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2018* This adapter was exactly as described. I'm using it on a Pixel 2XL. It works out of the box to allow USB-C charging and audio playback through a headphone jack simultaneously. This is what i needed for travelling long flights where i want to watch movies on my phone and keep it charged at the same time - using either the AC power adapter or a backup battery powerbank.Also can let you play music and charge while in your car, particularly helpful on "road trips".The first thing i tried though was connecting it to my car system. It worked great. Sound was excellent. I did adjust the stereo a little as it seems maybe it needed a touch more treble than from the car's mp3 player.*** This is exactly as described - However, one improvement would be to make a second similar model, but with a LONG USB C cable attached. For a car this makes more sense than running the charge cable and aux cable both up to where the phone is mounted on your dash. Instead of having those two cables running up to your phone, you would leave that stuffed in the center console armrest, and run a single USB-C up to your phone. It will be working fine and then I'll jostle the adapter in the "wrong way" (when walking it happens constantly, but it'll sometimes happen if I just shift my phone while this is plugged in and I'm holding it) and it'll stop playing my music. It's beyond frustrating.I was sick of paying $15 for the 3.5mm jack adaptor for my Pixel 2 that Google sells; I've had my phone since December 2017 and I'd already gone through 3 of them (they get heavy use 'cause I take the bus everywhere, but I'd already spent $30 on the adaptors in just over 8 months) so I decided to try my luck on this product. I was pleasantly surprised! It works fine, and feels sturdier than the one I got from Google. It also has the plug so you can charge your phone while you're also using your headphones! What a concept! It's only been about a month since I've received and started using this but I'm really happy with the investment so far.Another user brought up that there's some weird crackling noises when you switch between apps on your phone while listening to audio with the adaptor which I can confirm that I've also experienced.
