It clamps to the tripod handle with a screw fit and there is a cable which you plug one end into the unit and the other end into the camera remote socket. Initially I was disappointed it didn’t work and was removIng it to pack back up and return when I noticed a small switch on the side. I flicked the switch and tried again and it worked. It turned out the switch is used to enable the controller for different camera makes. The third picture for the item does show the switch and says one way for Sony and the other for Panasonic. For Canon cameras use the Sony setting. The variable zoom control is far better than the rocker on the camera and gives a much steadier zoom speed. If you are having problems with this before sending it back check that switch! Review: Fantastic little controller. - To quote the advert, it does exactly what it says on the tin! A great little Lanc controller. Sits nicely on the tripod pan bar and works seamlessly. A very smooth zoom wheel which gives excellent control over the speed of the zoom. I've used a number of different types of these from this cheaper model all the way to the expensive pro versions which are incorporated into the pan bar itself. This matches nicely. On further investigation Sony do (or did) make a lanc controller that fits this port which has the same controls as a lanc but as to what price I don't know. The rate of zoom is usually controlled by the pressure that you apply to it. In summing up the Sony lanc is a definite cert and this one from Amazon is a possibility, but for the price of it I consider it worth the risk. **Q: Will it work with canon xa55** A: Yes.
