Review: Robust flavor and gluten/chemical free! - My boyfriend and I cooked with this broad bean paste last night and it made the BEST Ma Po Tofu I have ever eaten, way better than what they serve at restaurants in my opinion. The flavor is really incredible and it packs some serious heat, we also love that the paste is already pre-minced! Even though it is a tiny jar, due to how strong the flavor and spiciness is, it should last you at least 3-6 meals which honestly isn't that bad at all when you break down the price. The best part about cooking with this broad bean paste at home is that I don't need to worry about whether the broad bean paste is safe for me or not - gluten is not safe for me and is present in almost all broad bean paste except for this delicious brand from Japan. As is common with Japanese foods, this brand is also free from gnarly preservatives and chemicals, and tastes wonderful. I actually found this paste to be much spicier than the Chinese ones and so I will use half as much paste in my Ma Po Tofu recipe next time - I absolutely love spicy food but even for me this was a bit too much spice, although after eating it I felt refreshingly cool. 😅

**Q: Can someone translate the ingredient list on the label, please? I need to make sure it doesn't contain wheat flour.**
A: I had the english label on mine, it says: salt preserved chilli(chilli pepper, salt), processed broad beans (broad beans, salt, malted rice), dried chilli pepper, salt, ethyl alcohol, ascorbic acid.

**Q: How does this taste different than spicy broad bean paste aka doubanjiang?**
A: A little saltier and less broad bean-y.   good. but I find this more useful for general stirfry cooking- do not use this for mapo tofu.

**Q: Is this made in japan or usa?**
A: Japan

**Q: Anyone GF have a bad experience with this sauce?**
A: It is very hot so do not use too much.
