We used to have electric in the kitchen and so this is not too much different even though you have limited (2) burners. One burner is larger than the other so that you can use a larger pot. Since we are doubled up in electric outlets till our reno is done I have limited the time using both coils but you could easily do both if needed. There are many safety features which I like. I only plug it in when in use to prevent and accidental turn on. The unit comes with a RED light which indicates that the unit is turned on. There are two separate GREEN lights one for each burner so you realize a burner is turned on. The dial for each burner is well designed. It only goes in one direction "on" so if you can turn it you are turning it on. There is a stop at the off place so you cannot dial past the off onto the highest temperature setting. When turning the dial it has about 1/4 of the dial that you turn past before getting to the first setting #1. The hottest setting is #5. I usually cook on #3. I don't like to burn my frying pans by having the heat too high. Someone complained that it took a long time to heat up. I don't agree. It is pretty quick heating up. Now if you had a huge 8 qt pot filled with water then I would expect it to take a while to get hot. But my frying pan heats up quickly to do my eggs to perfection at over easy. The surface is pretty easy to keep clean except for the space in the center under the coils which is a small area. Because this is a portable unit the coils are solidly connected to the base. You need to try a little to clean between the coils in the center but otherwise it is easy to clean. I would recommend it. Review: Hard to clean - Very hard to clean. Just threw out a really expensive one that was defective. Had to return several that were much more expensive because they did not function properly. This one is fantastic all around, looks great, functions well, has a grounded plug and is pretty inexpensive. I bought 2, just to have one for future use. I am so pleased with this product! FYI I have been using electric hotplates for many years and in general there is very little control to be had over the accuracy of the temperature, no matter how expensive the item is! The reviews that say there should be more control or the product sould be discontinued obviously have not used electric hotplates before, and have an unrealistic expectation!
