Well, I was genuinely impressed ! First scrape, sparks straight off, standard test for me is with petroleum jelly cotton wool balls 'cos I know these catch well, and flame immediately !As per a previous review, the rod takes more "damage" then the striker - which is how it should be - I tried this out with various rods, from the smaller Scout and Army models (LMF) and my personal favourite, the Ray Mears one (9mm) and these ALL worked brilliantly.
