The book raises multiple useful points such individuals should be on the lookout for, and offers some important cautions, such as avoiding scams, not treating your 'adviser' as you would a family member, the importance of compounding over one's savings years and the danger of high expenses on investments and in very basic terms, how stocks in the stock market grow in value. This is done pretty well.But this book has some important to critical information that it leaves out. It does not discuss the credentials of financial planners, such as the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation, which is pretty much the standard now for financial planners. The book has very little substance, almost as though it considers the reader to be 14 years old. The book constantly uses fairy tale anecdotes that get a bit patronizing at times. There is no mention of IRS rules on retirement plan contributions, distributions and inheritance. There is no mention of investment asset allocations and rebalancing, rollovers, safe withdrawal rate theories or the use of trusts to ensure asset management in the event of disability or death. And for those women for whom this book is written and who are in search of an 'advisor' who has their best interest in mind, the author does not mention either NAPFA or The Garrett Financial Planning Network, both fee-only, both whose members must be CFPs and both would likely be the best recommendation for such an audience.As it turns out, Ms. Moradi is an insurance agent whose livelihood, most likely, comes from the sale of insurance products. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Practical Advice on Finance - You Have to Be Your Own Heroine in Your Financial Story *by K***N on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 7, 2014* I think the advice offered in this book is very sound. The author has done an outstanding job making a dry subject (although its impact is vital to one's future) as relate-able and easy to understand as possible by using fairy tales and fashion for references. At least I'm familiar with fairy tales although I don't keep up with fashion. Her point is well taken that no financial adviser can be as interested or as vested in your financial future as you yourself are. Some useful spreadsheets are also included in this book. This offers a good hard look at personal finance, although written to address only women, and provides good guidance including the right questions to ask. Which is no small feat to pull off when you think of the subject matter it covers. I finally feel confident enough to get the ball rolling and start taking charge of my retirement.
