## Questions & Answers

**Q: I have two google voice numbers.  Can one be on line 1 and the other be on line 2 (for example)?**
A: Yes, you can use up to up to 6 different Google Voice numbers on the OBi2182 and you can put multiple call appearances for each line.  You will need to use OBiTALK,com to configure the phone for use with Google Voice.  Even though the phone is marketed as having 12 line buttons, with 6 on each side of the screen,  OBi/TALK will initially place them on the right side as you configure them.  If you want to move or duplicate them you can do that through OBiTALK's OBI Expert mode.  Even though I have training in programming various SIP/VoIP systems, I have found that OBiTALK is designed for the average person, without any training and is very simple to set up.

The only frustration I found was getting the phone registered through the website but unfortunately, they don't have an alternate way to register the phone.  I have now registered four devices on my account and for each device, it took multiple attempts to register for each one using the dial code "**5 xxxx" where the "xxxx" is the 4 digit code OBiTALK will give you when you attempt to register the device.  If it doesn't register within 15 seconds, try again but each code will only be good for 180 seconds before you have to request a new code. One one of my devices, it took me two days of trying t get it to register and as I said, I found this process frustrating but once it's registered, the device doesn't need to be re-registered unless you either delete the device in OBiTALK or you do a "Factory Reset" on the phone.  Because I pay nothing for the service, the frustration was a small price to pay.

Also, just so you know, OBihai/OBiTALK was bought out by Polycom, and Polycom itself is now owned by Plantronics.

**Q: I have a google voice number for my business. So all I have to do w the phone is connect to wifi and add it to my google voice account correct?**
A: To clarify:  there are two versions of Google Voice:  the original, mostly-free, consumer version for Gmail users, and the newer, paid, business version for Google Workspace customers.

This phone will only work on the consumer version of Google Voice, which is neither designed nor supported for business use.

Google Voice for Workspace uses the Poly VVX-x50 OBi Edition IP phones, and those phones will not work on consumer Google Voice.

You can't use the VVX-x50 phones on consumer Google Voice, and you cannot use these 2182 phones on Workspace Google Voice.

**Q: Do I need the OBi 202 to connect this phone to our number?**
A: You only need a router and a land phone to attach to it, not a computer.  Works beautiful, but the youtube videos are mostly wrong as to how easy it is.  It is not that simple to get your land-phone going, but it can work very well after the tweaking both GV & OBI, including resetting the OBI twice and deleting gmail accounts, but in the end, I got it working.  You should know that if you buy the obihai 202, that it will reach its END OF LIFE on DEC 2023 so be careful which obi you buy.  It took a while to get it going, but now I have a legitimate land phone going. and the land phone rings in my house and takes answering messages.

**Q: Do i need to purchase a google/obihai obi200 box if i’m using the obihai obi2182 ip phone w/pwr adapter?**
A: No, you don't also need the OBI200 box--that's for bringing one's own phone to the ObiTalk system.  The OBI2182 is an all-in-one solution which connects directly to your network and the owner just needs to sign up for a compatible service to use it.  For example, I use both Anveo and Google Voice services with my 2182.
