Definitely light enough for swimwear. It is very sheer and thin. I washed in cold on gentle - one side seam ripped a tad, but nothing worth returning. I hung to dry to avoid possible shrinkage. Did require a light ironing for my dressy purpose - but if used as swimwrap, probably not necessary. The color is a vibrant dark orange and lighter orange with a tad bit of black in the print, which somehow matched my maxi dress perfectly (you never know buying online what colors will actually match). And it stayed on my shoulders throughout the day's events without a lot of pulling and tugging.
