My receiver hdmi signal has hdcp protection and will not be able to record. Is true ?** A: IMHO in 2018: I am thinking that if you are getting a digital RF TV signal from any source and you want to record it ,you should be able to do so by first connecting that digital RF signal to a digital to analog converter box (Remember 2008 when Govt sponsored them?). Then you should be able to record whatever as an analog recording with an old analog recorder (Ebay). The quality is good enough for me. And the old Magnavox / Philips recorders take a digital signal (without any external converter) and record them as analog with 720P resolution (good enough for me). However, I don't know how your TV set gets its signal from cable box, whether it is delivered as a digital RF signal or via HDMI cable. It's turned on before I start the Avermedia** A: Any HDD larger than 2TB is usually formatted using a GPT system (not MBR). The original ER130 could not recognize GPT-system HDs. It would call for you to format the HD using an HP USB formatting utility (available on AverMedia's FAQ page), but that would reduce your 4TB to less than 2TB--because of partitions. HOWEVER, in late 2017, AverMedia issued an ER130 firmware upgrade that allowed for GPT-system HDs. Go to their Download page for the ER130 and get the firmware update. Expand the contents and load the resulting .bin file to a thumb-drive, then plug that into the ER130's USB port. Run the firmware update. **Q: Im looking to cut cable and go to streaming. As noted by someone else, you will need a "splitter" to record an HDCP copy protected signal. The splitter will remove that signal protection. See other comments in the questions and answers about what to buy. I've posted that I use the SANOXY® HDMI 1x2 3D splitter purchased here to solve that problem. I don't know why one answer to this question said you have to buy a 2TB drive. That's not true. The box is capable of accepting an *up to* 2TB 2.5 inch laptop hard drive which can be installed internally but you can also be of any size 2TB or smaller. Keep in mind that the box requires that the drive be formatted for NTFS and that may be a challenge if you're not technically inclined. The box accepts externally attached USB storage as well.
