Also, how long you've been trying this out. I had my doubts about this working too because at first, it did repel everything, but the birds didn't seem to care for it. Now, I have to buy more frequently because birds are eating it up so fast.FULL REVIEW: Got into feeding birds and knew nothing about it at all. Learned rather quickly that squirrels will clean you out when it comes to seeds and suet. Raccoons will get you on the suet. Tried a number of solutions that failed. Greasing things so they can't climb them (but that attracts ants, needs to be replenished too often, and is just messy), using contraptions to block climbing (but they're clever and find new paths and jumps to the feeder). And what the squirrels didn't get, the raccoons and possums would finish. After a lot of searching, I learned about spicy bird food. Mammals react to it, but apparently, birds are unaffected by this. I was skeptical but decided to try it. I then watched as squirrels tried it and semi-freaked out. It took no time at all for them to decide that just wasn't for them.The issue, at first, was that the birds weren't trying it and this had me worried. It was meant for woodpeckers after all, but they were ignoring it and continuing to opt for the bird seed instead. The first birds to try it were the grey catbirds. But eventually, the woodpeckers started trying them and now they just cannot get enough of it. The woodpeckers we have around here that were feeding from the birdfeeder first, but now almost entirely go for the suet, are the downy woodpecker and the red bellied woodpecker. I even see them bringing their babies or young children to the feeder to teach them about it as a food source. I love watching them pick from the square and then put it into their mouths!So for me, this definitely has worked incredibly. It just took a little time (maybe a few weeks) for different birds to give it a try and then have them fall in love with it but be patient. It's been almost a year and the squirrels, possums, and raccoons, still don't like this or the pepper bird seed that I get.Grackles, brown thrashers, and grey catbirds also love this stuff. So where as before, even once interested, I could go quite some time without needing to replace the suet. We tried various fixes, included rubbing red pepper the the suet cakes. Nothing worked until we tried this product. The squirrels quickly decided it wasn't to their liking and the woodpeckers, jays, and nuthatches are fine with it.
