I like the way the minimalist style sneakers feel on my feet but I noticed that while running on the treadmill my ankle would twist just enough to slightly through me off balance. I have used these sneakers a few times in the gym and I am satisfied with the way they feel on my feet and the ankle protection. Since I have wide feet the design of the fore foot did not bother me, although it does look a little weird. I do think I may need to add a little more cushion with gel sole, not sure yet because it does not bother me enough to go out and buy some insoles just yet. I did find that I need to wear socks that came up over my ankles because the footie socks just were not comfortable while running in these sneakers. I stuck to the medium width since I read the reviews that said the medium was kind of wide anyway with the design. The material is breathable so my feet do not get hot. I have owned New Balance sneakers in the past and have not had a problem with durability so I think these will hold up for awhile. I got these strictly for working out so I cannot speak on how they will perform playing basketball on a indoor or outdoor court. I will say that it is a minimalist sneaker (very light) and does not have any cushioning or padding in the foot area. So if you like sneakers that have more support and cushioning these are not the sneakers to wear. Also, the tread on the bottom has a flat texture so grip would probably not be the best on a court or for trail running. I like to go up Stone Mountain at least once or twice a month, but I would stick to my trail sneakers or sneakers that have more tread on the bottom rather than wearing the New Balance sneakers. They would be nice for the ankle protection but the bottom is just too flat to be running over rocks and trying to get up steep inclines. Overall, it is a good gym shoe which is the reason why I bought it. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Great lifting shoe *by J***. on January 26, 2015* I bought the older low top version of these shoes a little over a year ago (black and yellow version) and from the first second i put them on loved them. However, the first second i put these shoes on i was like, "s***." These shoes are very narrow compared to my first pair of the old version. Other than the narrowness of the shoe it does the job. The main attraction of the shoe is the feeling of it not being there. This shoe i know it is there more than the old one because of the ankle support. Which has its downsides. I like the feeling of more support but sometimes when i move around i feel it sort of pinch because it is so thin of fabric. I also noticed the laces are just a tad too short. I would have to unlace them each time i put them on or take them off. I tie knots in my laces right at the tip so they won't fall out of the eyes and with this shoe i can barely slide my feet in and out.I only wear these shoes at the gym. I lift anything from 5 pound dumbbells to doing full clean and jerks. I love them. The heel to toe transfer i get while doing olympic style lifting is great. The feeling of pulling (weight) in your bare-feet while still wearing shoes is great. Durability is great too. My old ones are still wearable but the bottom tread is starting to tear. These shoes have been worn for maybe 2 weeks now. No show of wear. I wish they would actually loosen up faster.Overall i recommend these shoes but definitely take in the sizing when considering which size you buy. New balances always fit me and i was shocked when these didn't. But i can't complain too much, i bought these at close to 75% off.Next pair.. buying wider. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good all purpose sneakers for working out *by W***O on December 4, 2014* I have been using New Balance Minimus road running shoes v1 for years now. These "training shoes" have the same mostly flat bottom. I find this to be the best kind of shoe to run on roads or to workout indoors and/or run on treadmills. These shoes have considerably more lateral support than my running shoes which I like for most of the stuff I do to workout indoors. They're also "zero" gain or near zero, flats with minimal padding between your foot and the ground...so called "barefoot" style shoes. This allows for a great sense of "feel" when you run or lift weights. Some weightlifters at my gym prefer to lift in bare feet. These shoes offer a near bare-foot experience while giving you some lateral as well as ankle support, to say nothing of keeping your potentially stinky dogs under wraps. I've used them for weight lifting, kick boxing, plyometric jumping and plan to use them to shoot (but not play) hoops. I think the are a terrific all around work out shoe and I'm sorry that it appears this model is becoming increasingly difficult to find.
