## Questions & Answers

**Q: Any idea what the range is for the pager?**
A: The range is reasonably large but no more than necessary to get to bike quickly enough when alarm is triggered. It is claimed up to 700 meters in unobstructed view, though actually I do not go away farther than one or two minutes from reaching the bike, and experienced no problem. Frankly speaking, nobody tried yet to touch the lock during three years (except for children who get amused its loud sound, and even play hide-and-seek with the owner), looks like it's an excellent visual deterrent compared to various cable locks. As for false alarms (because of wind, or careless passerby) the farthest range proved to be operational was on the fifth floor of a building, on its backside, and the distance to the bike protected was about one hundred meters on the ground level. So 100 meters plus a couple of bearing walls plus height of 20 m is not a problem for it.

**Q: can you use the pager to find the lock if it's within range?**
A: No, it is one way communication between lock and pager. The pager will sound if the alarm goes off, but pager does NOT communicate with lock.

**Q: how do you stop the alarm with the remote once is triggered? how you turn the alarm on or off with the remote?**
A: The alarm will reset after a minute I think. From my experience the remote just turns on and off to link with the actual alarm. It's not like a car remote. It's just a device to aid to alert you when alarm is going off. Shutting the remote off does not turn the actual alarm off.

**Q: I set the lock, and I wait 1 min, then I move it around to test the alarm.seems you really need to bang the heck out of it for the alarm to go off, why**
A: This is not what suppose to be, my alarm lock go off even if I just move it a little. Very sensitive and loud.

## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A must have, cant get a more functional lock for the price.
*by B***N on August 2, 2016*

Its awesome. So lets break this down, this is not your ultimate high security unpickable un breakable lock. It is the kick ass lynch pin in a mobile asset security system though. So i have seen this lock destruction tested and it took a large sledge hammer to do it and five really good hits, amd it really not the way someone would be able to do it if they wanted to steal an intact bicycle or other asset the lock is directly attached to. Im not sure how secure the locking mechanism is against picking since not all disc detainer locks are made equal, but that style of picking even for the low end types is uncommon, so its probablt pretty safe on that front. Im pretty sure it can be pulled or torqued open by the shackle, but not easily, and not quickly, and if its not the only layer of security, thenits just one more thing to have to defeat. The good news is that for all but the most deliberate, knowledgeable and patient of criminals, doing any of those things will set the alarm off at some point. Thats the thing that made this lock work, the alarm and pager. So, the lock itself it pretty heavy duty. Theres a reason the manual says do not use as a weapon against people. Its because its large and heavy and you could beat someone to death with it. The locking cut outs on the ends of the shackle make me think the lock could be pulled, but if its attached to the asset in a way that pulling it is impossible or impossible without damaging the asset and its value to the thief, then this is a non issue. It might also be vunerable to torque or high shear force attacks like a bottle jack, so be ware of that too.Pros, the alarm is great and the pager works very well and very fast, instantaneously. Lock is heavy duty and water resistant and loud. Comes with tool to install battery. Battery is securely installed . Comes with two or three keys and a cut code for replacements. If just thenalarm functionality is desired, that can be done. You can remove the shackle and lock the lock, remove rhe key and the alarm will arm and if the base unit is bothered, it functions as designed. So it can function as JUST and alarm if thats your application.Cons (and these are just things i noticed, they arent really cons)Limited shackle length. Works well to lock a wheel, but for other applications, it would be nice to have a longer shackle available.Large and kinda heavy, not a huge deal on a motorcycle but on a scooter or bicycle, its kinds bulky. But its so worth the weight to find a way to carry it. It will fit in most backpacks. And if you have or add properly spaced loops on your bag, you can just carry it on the outside of the bag. If you are going to use a full size u lock for your bike, and usually be within half a mile of it when locked, then just buy this, because thisnosnthe price point you should be shoppin in for a u lock if you live in a high risk area, and regular u locks dont have an alarm and something like the abus u lock are competitive in price but not in features. This lock might not be as strong or secure as a abus, but if somone can break this, they probably came prepared to break an abus also. If they can break an abus, you are hosed anyway, and an abus cannot ever let you know its being messed with. So if you are gonna spend 80 to 150 on a u lock, get this one.The switch is a little finnicky, you have to be very deliberate amd take your time when turing it on or off. If you do it too quickly, the switch doesnt throw and you will either leave it armed or disarmed depending what it was when you turned the key. This may mean you have the alarm go off when you put the alarm away or it may not be armed when you lock your bike. Put the key all the way in and turn it to the stop point but dont turn it like you are trying to break it, just firm effort dont be a jerk. It buzzes twice for armed amd once for disarmed and the pager mirrors those sounds. Get rechargeable aaa batteries for the remote as its impossible to tell by looking quickly if the thing is on or not amd it eats batteries when its on so get a 2 pack of aaa rechargeables so that you have one in it and one recharging. The alarm unit is much easier on its 9 volt so off the shelf alkaline is the easy eay to go there unless you alreadt have a charger that does 9v batts. There is a feature that tells you when you dont have the shackle in and locked right, the lock beeps loud and high pitched. This is great, but if the manufacturer reads this, increase the delay, that thing is loud and obnoxious and i would like more than 30 seconds to lock my asset up. Also that feature shpuld integrate with the pager too, that way if you say put a two minute delay on that feature and someone thinks they have it locks and they dont and they walk away, it lets them know on the pager also.you could us a lock icon with a break in the shackle for this. The pager is just a reciever, it does nothing to the lock or the alarm, it just gets triggered. Thats fime for the price, but it would be nice to be able to reset the alarm in case of an accidental trigger without having to wait 30 seconds or manual reset with the key. Maybe a new version will have this feature. Also the pager needs better batrery management it eats batteries.Buy this lock as ppart of your security system for mobile assets, you wont be sorry. One little complaint, hopefully the ,anufacturer reads this and changes it. The arm disarm switch is integrated into the locking mechanism. This is as it should be. But for a reason i cant quite put my finger on, it doesnt always arm or disarm when you turn the key. Some people would say this is unacceptable, its really not a huge security deal. Once you have used this and know what it and the lock spund like when you turn it on or off, you know and you wont forget. Pretty easy. What is annoying is that if you go to unlock the lock, and turn the key, then ,ove the lock, it goes off. Or say you accidentally set it off after locking it and you go tp reset it, and it doesnt arm. Now you have to reset it again. Its a small issue, and homestly, it may be a simple tolerance issue, the lock mech may engage/disengage slightly before the arm disarm switch and i may be finding that gap, so as with all disc detainer locks, insert key all the way and turn all the way. Could be me. But it happens quite a bit.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ So far so good, but I will change the review should it not work as advertised.
*by M***D on November 7, 2018*

Minus one star is because 1. Came with a dead AAA battery. 2. The quality of the shackle is flimsy and the shackle is rather short. 3. Instructions in the booklet are not very clear.I know some people complained is not loud enough. Mine is ridiculously loud. Louder than my home security system or my bike's internal alarm. It is so loud in fact I feel compelled to cover my ears fearing my hearing would be damaged. 120-140 Db from my humble estimate. Sensitivity is good. Simply moving it about on the tabletop makes it go off. I don't yet know how well it works over distance and through walls, many reviewers claimed this goes through multiple brick walls and over a distance of half a mile, which is more than enough for practicality. Any longer and you wouldn't be able to run back in time to stop the thief. I sure hope my unit is no different, but I will test it out and change my review accordingly should it not perform as expected.Pros: So far the features claimed by manufacturer/seller (or at least ones I was able to test) work as claimed. This is the only remote notification alarm security product out there which doesn't require a SIM card, a service subscription, or cutting into internal wiring of your bike to install, and probably the only product which employs RF rather than WIFI/Bluetooth/3G. I have no idea why this concept has so little popularity, - there really should be dozens of products capable of RF transmission/reception, but there just aren't. It's simply unfathomable to me why this is the case!!Cons: (besides ones I already mentioned).1.Single AAA battery is way too little power. I don't expect it to last long and other reviewers have pointed out they need to change batteries very frequently. A dual AA or single 9 V battery would have been more appropriate. Get rechargeable AAA and charger if you buy this, you should be able to save $.2. You have to wait at least 10 seconds to reset it while it's blaring. A minor thing but quite annoying.3. You cannot turn it on with the pager. Only reset it or turn it off before putting the key in. Arming has to be done with the key, and it's a little finicky, sometimes it turns on when you don't intend it to.4. Battery door on the pager is too tight. It's difficult to close by sliding.5. I feel a product like this being $150 US or $ 200 CAD after taxes, shipping and duties should have a lifetime warranty or come with added warranty which Kryptonite products have, promising to pay you up to $5000 should your bike be stolen regardless. When you pay so much for a security product - you want a piece of mind. I don't think this has any added warranty or deal and it's a real shame. I would gladly have paid extra $50 for additional piece of mind. But now I have to still think about an insurance. My advice to you is: if you get this one, - also get another security product such as Kryptonite 14 mm diameter chain and a New York Lock. I would not rely on this lock alone, its main function is remote notification, as a lock - it is no better than a $20 U-lock you buy at a store. I've seen good quality high-tensile steel, and this just ain't it.
