First is to learn the constants which are always going to be checked on the exam in various forms and can be predicted as well as learned in a fairly short duration of time. The second part of preparation is about the variables, and it takes a much longer duration of time to learn, assimilate and master. This book will teach you the constants well so that you can pass the exam. Do not use it to improve your medicine skills in general.Pros:– every topic has with the best initial test, most accurate test, best initial treatment and most common wrong answers. This approach cuts the chase to what you really need to know.– Tips and tricks regarding keywords to look for in the questions to quickly select the right answers– Very useful tables for quick review– a lot of space on the edges of papers to take extra notes.I loved this book. I am not a scholar or a top performer, but I know that this book allowed me to review the most important topics in the limited number of days I had before the exam so that most of the questions on the real exam appeared very familiar. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Prepared well for Clinical Rotation and Shelf (NBME) *by J***T on Reviewed in the United States on May 7, 2014* I accidentally bought this book thinking it was geared solely for the internal med shelf (NBME), but really it is geared towards ABIM exam. Still, I used this book during my IM rotation and even found that many of the 3rd year residents also used the same book (2 were chief residents). So in my case the book was invaluable to answering rounds questions, and knowing next step in managment, not so much diagnosis though. I was also was informed by my school I passed my NBME IM shelf (still waiting on my score).The other resources I used were Case Files (As I do all my other rotations) and questions.I would say this would be a great book for Internal Medicine Residency, but also it did a pretty good job with preparing me for the NBME IM shelf. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Review only *by J***U on Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2013* Use it as last minute review not for your entire prep .
