Usually it was some sort of snap-on case, mostly to protect the back. When I got my new iPad Air is was so light and thin that I didn't want to add any sort of case to it, preferring to use it "naked".The downside to this policy was that setting it down on tables or carrying it around left it unprotected. I wanted something that was easy to slip on and off so I could still use it without a case but protect it when laying it down or carrying it between the living room and office or bedroom.This sleeve is perfect. It lays completely flat making it the perfect place to lay my iPad and it's super easy to slip the iPad in and out when I want to carry it around. It adds very little bulk which will be nice when I want to pack my iPad in my laptop bag.Since the sleeve is felted it is not smooth which makes it safer to carry around under my arm-no chance of slippage. I'm not expecting any major drop protection from this sleeve but I think it would provide a little bit since the edges are about a half inch thick and might absorb some shock. It's not going to protect the screen from any sort of hits since it's soft.The fit is just tight enough to keep it from falling out on it's own but a gentle tug pulls it right out. The are no snaps or closures to complicate things. It's just a nice, simple sleeve.If you are looking for basic, carrying-around, laying-down protection while still allowing you to use your iPad as Apple intended this is a sleeve worth considering. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Good case, but will definitely slip out if you hold sideways at an angle or upside down *by A***L on Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2013* For what it is, the immediate availability, what you pay and what it does: absolutely perfect. Not necessarily the sleekest looking but not unattractive either. And it was available as soon as I received the iPad Air unlike any other sleeve made specifically. This will protect against light knocks and drops, but not any heavier handling or mishaps. It is low profile, easily slipping into a bag or case. iPad Air will drop out of you hold it upside down, so not a tight fit like the Portenzo sleeve I just received-so for that I deduct 2 stars( I saw what another reviewer posted about it not dropping out of Sleeve, but for me this was NOT the case). For something that cost me $600.00 I will use the leather Portenzo for protection, but the Sleeve served its purpose for the first couple of weeks and will be perfect for anyone who only desires light protection and is more careful than myself. Maybe i got the one that was meant for use with the Smart Cover,or maybe that is just marketing and they make it looser for all users to accommodate a cover. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Simplistic *by D***K on Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2014* A very simple design that allows good protection when putting it in another bag or just setting it down on a rough surface. It is very snug (the reviewer who said it isn't is wrong) and will only come out if you turn it upside down and give it a good shake.
