Turning it "off" would only turn it to red light, and there was no way via the remote or the direct control button to actually turn the light off. It has since stopped allowing any air to pass through and came disconnected from the bottom of my tank. I wish I were still in the return period! Original review: I had high hopes that our air pump was strong enough (rated for 60 gallons, in our 40 gallon tank) that this product would work for us, but alas, I should have trusted the negative reviews! We can, occasionally, get bubbles out of up to three holes on this bar (and yes, we've tried tilting, angling, blocking holes, etc... that helps for maybe a minute before the bubbles stop). We now have hooked up an air toy to the other end and just let the air escape there, instead. It's very disappointing when you splurge on this product for the wall of bubbles and the visual effect that imparts and you get a pitiful bubble stream instead, but the lights do look nice and I won't go through the effort of removing this from my tank.
