Steaming food helps retain fresh textures and flavors, and preserves precious nutrients. Easily turn almost any pan or stock pot into a vegetable steamer to make healthy meals with ease. The 2-tier design offers ample room for preparing a single or multiple servings. Fish are a food which cook best in a steamer, especially salmon. Many vegetables cook well in steamers. Tough broccoli stems can first have their outer toughness peeled off and their softer inner core could then be cut up and steamed. Steamers often include a few separate steaming baskets for foods which require different steaming times. A steaming ring allows putting a large steamer on a smaller pot of boiling water. Inexpensive steamer basket liners are available to prevent certain foods from sticking to bamboo steamer baskets. Like any kitchen item made of wood such as bamboo steamers, wood cutting boards, utensils, etc., only handwashing is allowed, no dishwashers, to then completely towel dry them and an occasional oiling with walnut oil (which I use) or raw linseed oil, NOT boiled linseed oil, is advised. I really like this steamer. It's great for veggies and Chinese dumplings. I discovered that for the really big dumplings that don't fit, I can get more space by turning the bottom later upside down and putting at on top of the upper layer, then the lid on top of that. It doesn't nest, but it gets the job done well.
