I bought 4 pool noodles, cut them up and zip tied them as protection to the bike, and also zip tied two longer end pieces to help the bag maintain height structure. I then used cardboard (a large box I cut in half) on either end of the bag to further maintain bag structure and protect the bike. I had no issues with this setup - my bike and the bag arrived without any damage.
