There is a strap to hook to dogs harness. There is a Velcro thing in the bottom but I’ve never used it. I doubt my dog would like being strapped in. It actually looks too small to be if any good. It’s a great carrier. I love it and my dog does too. I put it on and then lower myself to her level and she crawls right in. **Q: How would a cat do in it?** A: Yes your cat should fit fine if she is not too small. **Q: Just purchased this... no instructions, my dog cant walk/ move. How do i secure him in?** A: I used a harness on my dog which connects to a tether with a metal clasp built into the one end of the sling. While the dog is free to still move inside the sling the tether together with the harness ensure it won’t fall. Do not connect the tether to a collar. That would pose a choking risk if the dog were to fall out. It’s not super comfortable because the material is a typical cotton, nothing very soft, but that’s okay. The discomfort comes mostly from the strap. I’m short (5’1”), so I have to pull the strap all the way and the plastic part is right on my neck. I wear it (I think) opposite as intended with the thinner part of the strap over my neck and that helps. It is relatively large with enough room, with hopefully enough room for my growing kitten (only 6 pounds as of now and will likely be a bigger cat). I do like the safety feature of the clip that can hook onto a harness to keep your pet from jumping out or getting far if they happen to get out. My kitten is happy in it, but not for too long, probably just because of being a hyper kitten. The color is as pictured.
