The lens is manual and the camera actually has two systems to help the photographer focus. Manual Focus Assist zooms in and you can fine tune your focus. This is not fast, it takes a moment or two to fine tune but it's also very precise. This is great for studio work or portraits. Focus Peak is for moving targets - kids, pets and street photography. Using both modes at the same time may drive you crazy. If you are switching between a manual focus and an autofocus lens, use the Fn key to switch between auto and manual focus modes. Using the lens hood at 28mm will vignette the edges of the picture. I recently bought the 24-105: a lot more money but I haven't looked back. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Lens good, filters bad. *by B***. on Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2019* The camera lens is great and feels really well built. I also feel the lens hood is also well made and seats securely on the lens and when not in use fits well facing the other direction on the lens just as well. The fact that the part of the lens that moves is only the inner ring of the lens means the overall length of the lens changes very little is nice. I am satisfied that this lens will serve me well. The negative portion would be the filters that came with the package I purchased. The UV filter probably will be fine but the circular polarizer filter was useless and I don't feel it is even worth the time to send back. Overall, I would recommend this lens based on it's price and functionality. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nice, characterless, walk-around lens for full frame cameras *by W***K on Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2019* I am shooting this on the A7R II. The lens has no stand-out optical characteristics, nor does it have any flaws, good or bad. It's just a decent walk-around lens for snap-shooting that I use when I want to minimize the weight of the camera and minimize my input.
