I had that happen to me with this item. Some of those complaining of stripped screws thought that the threads were not tapped properly. I thought that too at first, but upon closer inspection I could see what the problem was.As we all know, bike stems are split all the way, top to bottom, to allow a sufficient clamping force on the steerer tube. This extender is NOT split far enough to allow clamping action at the upper screw. Thus, when tightening the upper screw, it feels like it stops and can't go farther. A little more tightening, and the cheap alloy strips out.I'm only using this temporarily on a trainer, so I wanted to make it work. I drilled and tapped the stripped hole for a larger M6 screw (stock was M5), opened up the recessed flat to make room for the larger M6 screw head, extended the slot with a Dremel, and installed it. Now it works... for my trainer.I would NOT use this on any bike being ridden on a road or a trail. Its design could lead to an unsafe condition. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Improved Riding Position *by M***M on Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2018* The Wake fork stem extender so far has proven to be a solid component that has enabled me to raise the handlebars on an older road bike. In recent years as I have gotten older, I’ve found that a more upright riding position is much more comfortable. I have raised the handlebars on all three of my road bikes making the geometry of each one very close to the geometry found on the currently popular gravel bikes. The Wake stem extender looks good and blends in with the black spacers and stem that are on my 2003 Trek. Installing the extender and adjusting the handlebars took less than 20 minutes and I’m very satisfied with the quality of the extender as well. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Does what it's meant to do *by M***M on Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2018* Needed to raise the handle bar on my Cannondale Evo, due to the aggressive geometry of the bike and my on-going back issues. This makes riding a bit more comfortable.Had some issues fitting the extender on to the carbon fork. Even with the two fastening screws completely off, the extender would not easily slide onto the fork. Had to use a rubber mallet to get the extender on the fork.Also, I didn't know much about the different types of compression plugs prior to purchasing this extender. My Cannondale was fitted with an FSA compression plug, which is not compatible with the long screw provided with the extender. Had to purchase another type of compression plug, which is hollow in the center bolt. This allows the long screw to be fastened to the hollow bolt connected to the new compression plug.
