## Description

SAS - 7200rpm - 128 MB Buffer

Review: I can help you with new SAS drive in your PC- see comments - Simply, you need: a) a SAS-capable premium storage controller card- probably a PCI-E v3 or v4. I have an LSI/Avago/Broadcom MegaRaid MR9361-8i PCI-E v3 card. It's 6-7 years old and it was speced as 12GB/sec SAS or SATAIII then. Forget about these people repeating, "oh you need a SAS 'Back Plane'" so that they sound expert. "Back Plane" is an arcane 90s professional storage-data-it industry general term applied to hardware storage arrays or professional open-host computers and their hostboard-to-disk interface. It's meaningless to chase down. It never existed in the context of the desktop PC/workstation lexicon. You need a SAS-capable, optional professional-quality storage controller card, probably PCI-E bus v3 or v4. SAS is unlikely to exist embedded on the motherboard, unless it is a high-end, data-center, professional pc. b) likely, depending on your storage controller card, an SFF-8643 Internal Mini SAS to SFF-8482 female connector cable. The 8482 end connects to the new SAS drive. I bought a CableDeconn 1M here for $25. They were backordered for a few days. My MegaRaid controller has the mini-SAS/SATA SFF-8643 receptacle. I already had in my Lenovo 30AH P300 workstation an SFF-8643 to sata iii cable. Very similar to what I just bought for the SAS. I have 3 1TB Seagate Sata III drives in a RAID-5 configuration. I bought this SAS 4TB 12GB/sec drive last week to act as my backup drive, and I wanted to check out SAS and the 12GB/sec throughput. I have on order from Lenovo a storage caddy that I can install the SAS drive and swap in with taking the DVD rom drive out. There's only so much space for drives in my PC. Why not external? I had one- a WDC Blue SATA III from 2017. It FAILED. I was running USB 3.0. I wanted to take advantage of the MegaRaid controller SAS and 12GB/sec, particularly for windows Image backup. I run windows 10, and I use Windows 7 builtin-to-OS backup program ("sdclt" at the Run command window). c) Finally, power. I didn't know this. I was unfamiliar with the SF-8482 end that plugs into the drive. I was unfamiliar with SAS in general. I wondered if it also carried power from the controller card since it fits complete width over the 2 connections (power and data) on SATA(if you want to take advantage of the backwards compatability) or the extra-wide male blades on a SAS drive. Then I figured out, oh, it's got a male blade on the back of the SAS connector going into the drive, so that you can attach PC power. Unfortunately for me, I thought I could swap in the new CableDeconn SAS 4-port Data cable for the old, but 2 of my drives are oriented in a way that does not give enough clearance to close the case. So I will use both ports on the MegaRaid card and the old and new cables.
Review: No factory warranty - The drives themselves are fine. I've ordered 26 of them, in 6 orders from 5 different vendors. Most of the vendors are selling these new hard drives without a manufacturer warranty. So if you want that 5 year factory warranty, buyer beware.
