Somehow avoiding info-dumping dialog pages, prologue text, or (perhaps worse) tons of action without any story at all, Nihei manages to masterfully tease out details with just enough frequency to keep me mesmerized. It’s all so mysterious and cool that I can’t get enough of it. I really hope that someday, someone can make an animated film in this style, it’s perfect for epic sci-fi.I seldom buy or read comics these days, but anything by Tsutomu Nihei I pre-order far in advance. Fans of his know just how difficult (read: expensive) it is to acquire these after they’re out of print (e.g. BLAME!). Volume 1 has you deciding whether or not to read on, it leaves you conflicted whether or not this will eventually pay off and the good thing that it does in Volume 2.Many things occur in Volume 2 but in a very natural pace. It feels as though every event that has occurred in the story so far, happens because it does (naturally, not forced).Anyways, its thanks to Volume 2 that I have made the decision to keep on reading Knights of Sidonia.
