In the last few years when purchasing these kinds of fittings from the big box hardware stores I noticed lighter versions of these being offered and solid brass hard to come by. Along with hose ends - female and male, the lighter versions are what I have been using. This year, that all came to a halt. I noticed the lighter non solid brass are aluminum based and have a brass plating on them to look like real brass.The problem I encountered with the aluminum versions is the aluminum corrodes through the brass and they become very difficult to either tighten or remove. I made the mistake of leaving a quick disconnect aluminum fitting on during the winter on my outside faucet and when it started to leak when I resumed watering, that's when I found that aluminum corrosion will will freeze to a brass faucet. I was able to cut it off without ruining the faucet (probably a 300+ repair from a plummer) so I have been on a terror to remove any of these fittings and replace with brass when I can find them, which is hard to do.I now have a source for these that is reasonable in cost and delivery. Sorry Big box stores, low price is not always the best way to go. IMO these are essential when attaching a sprayer to your hose.
