The glass dome will prove effective cleaning wise as able to instantly see if there is a build up from hard water areas. I did boil kettle twice and discard the water as advised to ensure no taste but quite honestly i think I could have used it straight away. If you need a new kettle this makes an excellent replacement. Although up to half the price of similar branded kettles there is no skimping on the quality.
