The rotating head is easier to regulate.  The oscillating sprinkler is not reliable when trying to control type and distance of spray.

This sprinkler *can* be great. It covers well, and is effective for lawn watering...when it works. I have ordered three of these. One works. One worked, and then gave out after less than a week, and one never worked at all. I sent back the one that never worked, but I ate the one that lasted less than a week, because I hate doing returns. It is a pain in the ass. I wish the product were more reliable, because when it functions, it is my favorite sprinkler, and it draws hummingbirds like mad! They love to play in it, which is a lovely side benefit to it being a great sprinkler for lawn coverage. When one is doing the dull work of moving sprinklers about a yard, displays from playful hummingbirds are welcome, indeed, and they are drawn only to THIS sprinkler. A more consistent manufacturing process, and I'd give this five stars. When it works, there is nothing better. When it works. Which, for me, is about 1/3 of the time. And it isn't cheap, as far as cost goes, nor is it environmentally friendly when it doesn't. Pure plastic landfill material, here. Bummer.
