I still have my film SLR and so I did not need a book about the theory of Single Lens Reflex Cameras. What I wanted was an introduction to DSLR's and specifically how to set up the D600. DSLR's have a myriad settings for things that weren't even an issue with film. Using compact digitals for several years also did not help me since so many of the settings available on the D600 don't exist on compacts. I am getting better shots and am more confident messing around with settings since reading this book. Digital Darrel really does know how to explain things clearly, with just enough technical content to help you understand without becoming long-winded or boring. If you are going to buy a (or have bought) a $2000 camera it just doesn't make sense not to get the most out of it. This book will help you do that and so represents great value for money. I recommend it without reservations. Review: Dealing in depth - I got this book to help me figure out some issues with aperture priority vs shutter priority settings. It goes into great depth (sometimes almost too much) on every single menu item - and that's a lot! My only complaints are that he doesn't tackle the camera's physical settings (knobs and dials) and, because I purchased the Kindle version, the illustrations are in B/W. He has covered every nook and cranny on this camera in an order and fashion as to enable the reader to grasp and use it quickly and effectively. I bought the D600 as I have bought many Nikon cameras with no malice and little fore thought, after beginning to see the complicity of this wonderful camera I submit there.is no way I could have gained the control in years of trials and error as I've accomplished in perhaps two weeks with this book. I say throw away the Manuel from Nikon (not literally ) this book is all the perfect guide and reference Manuel needed.
