**Q: What variety are these**
A: I think they are opuntia

**Q: There are no care instructions. Can you pleaee include that?**
A: I plant one and feed the rest to tortoises. The one I plant, I let lay out for a few days and then plant in a pot, so I can bring it in winter, but my neighbor has some out all year that look dead in the winter and come back to life annually.

**Q: When planted, will the new growth have spines/needles?**
A: All opuntia will have needles. the one you plant is an old one from the bottom of a plant. after this isplanted the new ones will be of course tender with spines just very tiny. it will be easy to peel with a sharp knife.  I hope this helps. if you see a video posted by somebody in tennesse you will see the difference between bottom ones and the very top ones.

**Q: How to plant**
A: I just stuck mine in concrete planters of dirt. If I plant them in the ground my tortoise eats them too fast. 
Put them about a third in.
