## Questions & Answers

**Q: Has anyone had a problem with bugs or diseases affecting the leaves?**
A: Chris, my vines last year (in PA) were fine (disease free). In the winter I took some seeds to Florida and -Planted them in a pot. To begin with, I had some disease which caused the leaves to go crinkly. Using the web, I diagnosed this as tobacco mosaic virus (can’t be sure of the precise term). This is transmitted by aphids when they suck on the leaves. The remedy I chose to treat it was to cover the ground in the pot with aluminum foil. Strange!? But it worked. The leaves looked normal after that...I pinched some of the bad ones off. Apparently, the shiny foil disorients the aphids so they can’t orient themselves to the leaves. The first year in PA I planted them in the spring and had no harvest at that time (although good flowering and healthy vines 9 feet high)(you need poles that high)..in the fall from the same plants I had a good harvest. This year in PA I have good healthy vines, lots of beautiful flowers but few bean pods. I expect to have a fall harvest like before. I think the spring harvest failure is due to the heat..these beans evolved in a cool mountain climate in South America..and wd probably do better in states like WA and OR. Good luck!

**Q: would these grow in texas?**
A: Not sure about Texas, I’m in Northern MN. We start indoors and move outside about 3 rd week in May. Nice and pretty red flowers the bees and hummingbirds like. They need something to climb up.

**Q: Are these too big to start in a standard seed starting cell?**
A: Generally this type of seed gets sowed directly in the ground. Can oversees and remove inferior plants.
Sow them now so you get a good yield.

**Q: Is this edible?**
A: Absolutely yes! Not only are they edible but I grow then along a 5 foot fence and they completely cover it. The red flowers attract hummingbirds which is a real bonus.

    These grew into lovely plants...

*by N***R on Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2019*

Finally I can put review here... as long as you tend your garden, carefully, etc, these are wonderful! some started a bit slower than the other beans in my garden, but-- once these started, they grew very lovely! nice beans, and the pods get very large and go to seed IF you want them to... the flowers are lovely, just for the sake of that alone-- though the beans are good, too! I enjoyed these and will buy them again, ... even though i DO have seeds... thank you very much for making these available... my mother taught me about these, and I am glad i learned!

I was really looking forward to these beans but instead I have a nice crop of winter squash. Very disappointed

    fast growing

I'm using mine for a quick privacy screen on a trellis. If I eat a few beans, that's even better, but mostly I'm going to enjoy the red flowers. They took almost 2 weeks to sprout, even after soaking overnight, but after that, there is no stopping them, they grow several inches overnight.
