At first I was not counting much. Made a handbag that was easy enough. Then as I got more advanced, I started needing to count stitches. Now, one would think, that counting stiches would be easy. It's just counting right? Ha! Apparently not. I just kept losing count and having to pull out the whole last row to redo it because I lost count. After doing this over and over I thought there has to be a better way. I started with the little round one that goes on the end of your needle. Took two hands to turn it so I had to put down my work and turn with every stich. Then I tried a ring. Beautiful thing. I really liked how it looked. But again the same problem. It was so hard to turn I had to put down my work and use two hands to turn it. I then moved to a metal palm counter but the thing was so big I couldn't work around it. I started researching. There had to be a way I could do this hands free... Something with a foot pedal. It didn't seem to exist. No matter where I looked across all retailers I could not find a counter with a foot pedal for knitting. Finally, after expending my search and looking at many forums on many knitting sites of people talking about this same idea.... Someone suggested something like this. The link they had was to one that was nearly 200$!! No way I was gonna pay that much! I came back to amazon and narrowed my search and finally ran across this gem. There were no reviews which made me hesitant to try it. I decided to take the chance (out of frustration and desperation) and ordered one. I'm so very glad I did. When I received it I was a bit intimidated. All the instructions were in chinese. It came not fully assembled and I had to piece together (with common sense and looking at the pictures here on Amazon) how to assemble it. I had to find the right tools (I'm no electrician! I had to pull out my trusty Leatherman to strip the wires and ended up cutting them several times before I got it) and it took me quite a while to get it set up. Once it was set up it was... Rough... To be honest. It also doesn't seem all that sturdy. However.... The functionality is great!! I can happily stich away watching TV or talking to someone and just hit the foot pedal every time I get to the end of a stich. I'm so happy. The counter itself is simple. Lightweight, obviously made in China, crappy plastic. That's fine it will sit on a table and not be touched except to hit the reset button. The foot pedal is sturdy and has a very satisfying mechanical click when it is depressed. Great! I don't even have to look at the counter I know that I have advanced it one number by the solid click of the foot pedal. I might try to rig some way to enclose the counter part with something to protect the wires just hanging out of the back. But otherwise I am extremely satisfied with this purchase.
