I highly recommend buying this book. It is a good way to study questions that are similar to what you will see on the FE. (I passed my exam).I would recommend this, the up-to-date NCEES Practice Exam, prepFE website, the lindburgh manuals, and "Mechanical Engineering FE Exam Preparation Example Problems and Solutions".I was 1 year out of school, and studied for 15 weeks for ~8-15 hours a week depending on how much trouble I had.Each week I focused only on completing one topic from the lindburgh manuals, and then used the rest of the material as "mock exams" during the week and few days leading up to the test.I felt very, very prepared.

This is a must-have for the FE Exam. The book provides questions and detailed solutions for a wide variety of topics. It gives you an accurate feel for timing and time management. I felt it prepared me very well for the afternoon Mechanical section, but it  definitely missed a few big topics in the general morning session. In addition, some of the solutions are difficult to follow as some of the formulas do not line up exactly with the NCEES reference guide. Its a great tool, but do not solely rely on this resource.

I bought this book along with one other mechanical specific FE prep book. It was a reasonable indicator of the kinds of questions that would appear on the test, but it did a terrible job of preparing you for the HVAC questions and a mediocre job in some other sections as well. Since it is not too expensive it is probably worth getting. If it matters, I passed the FE.
