The entire kit is only a few dollars more than the escutcheon plate by itself. The also includes a new knob, a new screw for the knob, 2 new mounting screws for the escutcheon, and surprisingly a new D-washer. Buying all the pieces individually would be roughly twice the price. The kit is genuine Moen. The escutcheon plate is metal with a shiny chrome finish. The escutcheon includes the outer foam seal and the inner foam seal around the hole for the valve. The kit also includes the 2 escutcheon screws that are not included when you purchase the escutcheon by itself. The knob includes the replacement screw as well. What was more of a surprise is that the kit includes a new D-washer. This is surprising as this isn’t even visible once assembled, and goes behind the knob and is covered by the stop tube. The replacement D-washer was more of a silver color than the original. The original appears to be brass. The original could have been reused, but I installed the new D-washer as well. I was replacing the old cartridges (1225B) in a shower and a shower/tub. Since I had to take these trim components off to change the cartridge, I wanted to replace them with new parts, as the originals were 30 years old. This was the perfect set to do this, and I ordered 2 of them. They were perfect. What isn’t included in the set, and you will likely need is the stop tube. This is the silver tube the goes through the hole in the escutcheon. Both of mine were rusted and corroded and I replaced these at the same time. These are not included. The Moen part is 10089. This part, while the correct replacement for this Chateau set, is a different design than the original. The original was sheet metal with a seam, this is a single piece of sheet metal. It is also very difficult to install. I suggest adding some silicone grease on the indentations in the tube, and the cutout goes towards the front/knob. While a somewhat minor fault that I have is that Moen changed the design from the original. The original had an H for hot and a C for cold on the escutcheon. This has an icon of an ice crystal for cold and an icon for the sun for hot. I guess this make it language independent, but I strongly prefer H and C. The metal insert in the knob also changed. The original was only silver with the new one having red on the left for hot and blue on the right for cold. I also preferred the original, but this bothers me less than the icons. As noted, these are original Moen quality replacement parts. The escutcheon is chrome covered metal. What the big box home improvement store stocked in the store was a universal replacement kit that was not nearly the same quality. It appears that the silver-colored escutcheon was silver color over plastic. That is simply not the same quality as this. I expect this kit will last as long as what it replaced, that was in use for 30 years and still in decent shape. I’m glad I didn’t buy the kit in the store and came to desertcart for this kit. It is also about the same price for the Moen original as the cheap plastic copies in the big box store. I just wish Moen would have included the stop tube in this kit. The valve had been sitting in my basement stock pile for a long time and when the time came to add a shower to my new bathroom, I decided to re-use the valve rather than buy a new expensive valve. While the valve itself was in perfect mechanical working order, the trim was not. I found this trim piece as well as the clear handle -all for a fraction of what a new shower valve would cost. Sure, its an old valve and doesn't have water-saving features or anti-scald prevention but I'm a middle aged adult and essentially live alone so these are not big concerns for me. It is offset like this.. ,o' with the o being the valve **Q: what kind of material is it made of** A: Stamped tin with chrome finish. There are alot of universal replacements but the Moen is the best as it original piece. Other intimidators are plastic & many times they are constructed incorrectly so you don't have hot water stops. **Q: does the T470 come with cartridge and and stop tube** A: Mine did not have the stop tube, but I was able to order it independently. Not sure what a cartridge is in this application... **Q: Does the trim piece have a gasket on the back or do you need to caulk it?** A: Even with the "gasket" provided, you'd still want to caulk around the edge....
