The pics show black but a reviewer's pics showed a clear plastic. How do they look looking down at them?** A: The ones I received have a dark center but a clear outer rubber wheel. They're much better on our laminate floors in our office. The other hard plastic ones that came with our stools and office chairs tended to be harder on the finish of the floors. They were very easy to replace. **Q: Are they safe on glass runners?** A: I am not sure but they work great on a hardwood floor. Great traction and no damage to the floor. **Q: I have a nice rug in my home office. The plastic caster wheel on my chair roll up the edge of the rug. Could this be an option other than plastic mat?** A: Possibly. I use my chair in the sewing room. My old wheels kept picking up every thread and fabric scrap. These eventually have picked up some thread, but nothing like the old ones because, I think, the axis is higher off the ground. In any case, they are a pleasure to use. I do have a rug under my chair with no problems, but it it a big enough rug that I do no often roll over the edge. Now retired; I spend a bit of time at my home desk, and needless to say in my chair. The floors were carpet wntil just recently. I was using a floor mat, but the wheels never worked well on this flooring. Now I have wooden floors, and because the original wheels were cheep plastic, I had Concerns they would damaged the flooring. Saw these wheels here on Amazon and though I would give them a try. Well, I will say that I am not disappointed. They were easy to install and was 100% compatible with the wheel Stims of the original wheels. ( chair is a Serta ). After using these new wheels for about three weeks now, I find they perform wonderfully. Now the new wheels have a larger diameter then the original one, but this is not an issue, for you need only to lower the chair Height. The new wheels roll smoothly, and are very stable. The wheels are made of a soft rubber-like Material, and though at this time I am using a floor mat upon the wooden floors, I will be removing the mat for I believe the new wheels will not harm wood.
