It will only switch to channels that have an active connection. I feel this is the cause of a few bad reviews I have seen for this product.I had plugged my laptop into the first port and it started up correctly, but the remote and button on the unit didn't seem to do anything. I plugged my Nintendo Switch into another port and still, nothing happened when I pressed any buttons. But when I turned the Switch on, it automatically changed to the correct channel for the Switch, a feature I wasnt even aware of! After that I was able to use the remote as required.Overall, after the initial confusion, it works great. I have only been using 1080p so I can't speak for the quality when running in 4K, but 1080p looks and sounds as it should do. The remote, while basic, works well, I tested it from the other end of my room and it still worked every time.
