It reminds me a bit of men's aftershave. I don't like fragrance and this lingers on your hair after it dries and lasts until the next hair wash. I have color-treated hair and this is advertised as gentle. It isn't gentle enough for my hair -- may hair felt dry and stripped of moisture after one washing. My hair felt like it does after I use a clarifying shampoo designed to remove build up and that opens the hair shaft prior to coloring.
