It's very readable in both Chinese and English (my Mandarin pronunciation is dreadful so sometimes my wife and I take turns reading the Chinese and English versions). First, the illustrations are vivid and delightful, featuring a hungry red panda as protagonist, which is native to China. Second, the Chinese and English text highlights a lot of high frequency characters and words. I also appreciated how the authors varied transition words in Chinese and use measurement/counting words for different items, e.g. pieces of tofu or slices of watermelon. Lastly, since I am a very rusty heritage speaker, the pin yin is super helpful.
