## Overview

Atticus Empero Q-Pak Nutsedge Killer delivers professional-grade weed control with 5% halosulfuron-methyl, targeting nutsedge at the root for complete eradication. Its pre-measured, easy-to-mix packets simplify application across a wide range of turf types, ensuring effective, safe, and fast-acting treatment that keeps your lawn healthy and weed-free.

## Description

Get out of the weeds and reclaim viable turfgrass with the selective herbicidal power of Empero Q-Pak. It contains the same amount of the same active ingredient as sedgehammer plus. Active ingredient Halosulfuron-methyl moves through the plant to affect underground growing points of weeds and sedges such as purple and yellow nutsedge, Kyllinga species and certain broadleaf weeds, offering highly effective nutgrass control while remaining gentle on turfgrass. Plus, it comes in a convenient pre-measured pack with a rapidly dissolving formulation for use in a sprayer, making it an easy and efficient turf management option. Empero is as versatile as it is easy to apply; maintain commercial and residential turfgrass as well as other non-crop sites including airports, campgrounds, cemeteries, established woody ornamentals in landscape areas, fairgrounds, fallow areas, fuel storage areas, golf courses, rights-of-ways, sports fields, and more.

Review: Easy to use - I mix a packet of powder in a milk gallon jug and pour part of the liquid into a spray bottle and store the rest. Each packet makes a gallon. Unlike Ortho Nutsedge Killer, it takes several weeks before the nutsedge actually turns brown and dies, but more importantly the nutsedge won't spread; Ortho kills the nutsedge in 2 or 3 days. Atticus Empero uses a different pesticide - halosulfuron (the same as used in Sedgehammer) - vs sulfentrazone used in Ortho. Both are effective but Ortho costs more. Update: This season I made the mistake of overwatering my lawn and the nutsedge came back. I now just pour the solution from my milk bottle directly on where I see the nutsedge. They turn brown in a few days, much quicker than by spraying. For a large area, I just douse the whole area. This doesn't harm the grass and keeps them from spreading. This method is not too costly and is effective. Also: Mature nutsedge takes longer to die; be patient.
Review: Haven’t used it yet but I know it works well after being recommended by a professional lawn service provider. Has high speed weed death, and the concentration effect saves space for storage. Great quality. Highly recommended.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will Empero control nutsedge without harming my lawn?**
A: Empero is a selective herbicide formulated to target yellow and purple nutsedge as well as green Kyllinga without negatively impacting the established turfgrass species. Never apply to newly seeded or stressed lawns.

**Q: Are there any tips to improve nutsedge control?**
A: Apply when weeds are actively growing and not stressed from heat or drought. If the soil is dry, water the night before application. Repeat applications may be needed for larger weeds and green Kyllinga. Allow several weeks for complete weed kill.

**Q: Once opened, what is the shelf life?**
A: Empero will be effective for a minimum of three years when stored in a cool, dry space.

**Q: What is the time interval between applications?**
A: Allow 6-10 weeks between applications of Empero.

**Q: Is re-application necessary after a rain shower?**
A: Empero is rainfast after four hours. If rainfall occurs within four hours of treatment, reduced effectiveness may occur and a second application may be needed.

*by P***. on 16 September 2025*

Each packet makes 1 gallon and should be used in its entirety, not stored in a sprayer. It seems to be working, although slower than I’d like. The attachment shows nutsedge yellowing. The first application was about two weeks ago and the second application was about a week ago.
