It has to have power from the grid or similar ac source. **Q: Is there a rack mount option?** A: Not that I know of, much to narrow to fit in a standard rack. You could mount it using a small radio mount **Q: Is the powerwerx 30 amp desktop dc power supply compatible with the standard power cord connector on a tyt 9800 radio?** A: Probably not with the stock radio connectors. I dont remember the end of the power cable that came with the radio but believe it had some "eye" connectors on the end and I dont think those will fit over the lugs on the back of the power supply (if the end of the power supply cable that came with the radio just as "tinned" ends than you could connect them to the lugs. You would have to make one of two power cords. Either one with a "typical" T molex style connector on one end and attaching the other end of the wires on the back of the power supply or make one with Anderson power pole connectors on one end of the cable and a T molex connector on the other end. Easiest way would be to use the cable that came with the radio (disconnected at the T connector and removing the lugs (if the cable has them) on the other end and attaching the cable to the lugs on the back of the power supply. **Q: Are front powerpole connectors 30 amp connectors before i buy some? thanx** A: The Anderson Powerpole connectors will fit 15, 30 or 45 Amp connectors - they all fit together. buy the connectors that fit your wire gauge e.g 15A is good for 16 to 20 gauge wire, 30A is good for 12 to 14 gauge and 45A is good for 10 gauge.
