## Description

Product description Premier PoultryNet Plus A 48" tall portable electric fence used to keep in chickens, ducks, geese and other poultry. Recommended for active, flighty birds and protection from large predators such as coyotes and dogs. Benefits Netting is quick and simple to move. Even for new users, it takes less than 10 minutes to go from out-of-the-box netting to installed fence. No extra gates needed. Just turn off the energizer and pull the first post to create an opening. With proper care, netting should last 5-7 years. Plus Nets For fences that involve curves, corners and directional change, or when aesthetics are a concern, “Plus” nets include additional line posts to reduce sag . Line posts are spaced every 6'8" (vs. 10' for standard 48" PoultryNet). Each roll is a complete fence with the posts already built into the mesh/fence. One roll (100 ft) weighs only 23 lbs. Common Uses Contain and control the movement of chickens, ducks and other poultry on a daily or weekly basis. Rotate poultry to fresh grass as a food source and to reduce disease risks. Keep small flocks in the backyard. When managed well, chickens are an indispensable garden tool—turning pesky insects and weeds into rich compost. Keeps out deer, bears, raccoons, rabbits, foxes, coyotes, stray dogs and skunks. Can be used to contain and control livestock other than poultry, such as sheep, goats, cattle and guard dogs. Precautions Electric fence is a pain barrier, not a physical barrier. A common mistake is not electrifying it. Animals may escape or become entangled (and may die). On a % basis, entanglement is very rare, but it can and does occur. If animals are scared or starved it will not keep them in. The first time you put the animals in the net, you should be available to watch them for a while. That way if one were to get into the fence and get caught, you can turn the power off and get them loose. Netting must be moved when tall grass covers the lower “hot” strands. The alternative? Apply a strip of herbicide to kill vegetation. Electrify Your Fence Electrifying the fence with an energizer is essential. For the fence to be effective at keeping out predators, it must be electrified to deter them from the flock. Energizers sold separately. What’s the best fence energizer? Poultry, due to the nature of their legs and minimal body weight, have much higher resistance to electricity than a cow, horse, pig or dog. And the fence, due to its low-to-the-ground nature, is prone to high weed contact. So low output units (such as those sold in farm stores) usually disappoint. We recommend using a pulse-style 0.6 joule unit or larger for up to 3 rolls of PoultryNet. Units with less joule output may work for 1 to 2 rolls of netting if grass contact is kept to an absolute minimum. Specifications: 12/48/3 PoultryNet Plus How does netting work? The horizontal strands are energized (except for the bottom one that rests on the grass) by a fence energizer. When chickens or ground-based predators touch it, they receive a high-voltage shock from the brief electric pulse—and learn to avoid it. This is netting’s biggest negative. Too much green grass or weed contact lowers the voltage of the fence. To overcome When grass gets 6" high, mow along the fence. If you mow into the fence, your wallet, the mower and the net will regret it! Move the net into the mowed strip by removing and reinstalling one post at a time. Takes approx. 5 minutes per roll of net. Or buy an energizer with enough joule output to cope with extra weed contact. A good rule of thumb is to buy an energizer with more joule output than you’ll think you need. When the fence pleases, most folks will buy more fence—and need additional output. Won’t chickens fly over the fence? Birds will fly over the fence if there is insufficient feed, too crowded, or if they’re trying to avoid fights. Some hens are just plain stubborn and refuse to “get with the program”. When first let out in the morning, watch for the hen that gets out first. She’s the lead troublemaker and prime contender for clipping. If there’s an escape problem, we find it’s usually led by a hen or two with the rest simply following along. Identifying her and clipping the flight feathers on one wing usually solves this problem. This does not have to be done for the whole flock. Note: Electric poultry netting won’t stop young birds small enough to slip through the 2" net openings. Clipping wings doesn’t hurt the bird reduces its ability to take flight over 42"–48" Hold the bird in comfortable position, then open one wing to stretch it out. Cut the primary flight feathers (those furthest from the body) about halfway down the shaft. You only need to clip one wing, not both.

Review: Keeps my once free-range chickens from pooping absolutely everwhere - So our chickens have been free range for over a year now and they of course like to go everywhere they shouldnt and leave behind....presents. We got this fence mainly to keep the chickens and ducks in one large area instead of having free reign of the entire place. It has worked perfectly for keeping our chickens and runner ducks inside one area. Even though my chickens can fly they havent flown over the fence. I have the equipment to electrify the fence but just haven't done it yet so I can't comment on that part. It was super easy to set up by myself. Before setting it up, i made sure to mow the grace where I was putting the fence, really short. It is pretty expensive so I hope it lasts a long time but I can't comment on that right now. To keep it mostly straight I used my foot to lightly pull the posts a little tighter before inserting them into the ground. It comes with a tag to put on the fence for safety so people know not to touch it if its electrified. I will try to remember to update this review after winter to see how it does with snow.

**Q: Does the netting need to be connected at start and endpoint, or can it be used in a straight line? only need to fence in 1 long side**
A: The ends do not need to be connected.  You may use it in a straight line.

**Q: I have only five chickens and won't to let them run out some but the length is a lot, do you have a shorter fence for a small flock?**
A: We have item 208437 - 48" Electric Chicken Net listed on Amazon.  It is 82 ft in length and yellow in color.  We would recommend using non-conductive support posts, such as item 208055 - FiberTuff posts, at the ends, corners and major directional changes for additional support.  We do have our item 207105 - 48" PermaNet Plus in 50 ft. lengths, but unfortunately it is not available on Amazon.  You can see it on the Premier 1 Supplies site.

**Q: in addition to fence netting and energizer is there anything else needs such as additional posts which would strengthen the fence?**
A: The PoultryNet Plus does have additional posts versus our standard PoultryNet, but we do still recommend using additional non-conductive support posts at the ends, corners or major directional changes for additional support.  Posts like our item 208055 - 48" FiberTuff posts, which are designed for use with our netting.

**Q: Would this work for bull calves?**
A: It may work when they are quite young. It is reasonably sturdy (but I'm using it for chickens), but I'd be concerned about the durability with cattle. Also, with my set-up 4 100' fences and 1 solar charger, the shock is not very strong. I'll be upgrading the charger soon. With one fence and the solar charger the shock is definitely more prominent but not as strong as a typical wire set-up.

We got this fence mainly to keep the chickens and ducks in one large area instead of having free reign of the entire place. It has worked perfectly for keeping our chickens and runner ducks inside one area. Even though my chickens can fly they havent flown over the fence. I have the equipment to electrify the fence but just haven't done it yet so I can't comment on that part. It was super easy to set up by myself. Before setting it up, i made sure to mow the grace where I was putting the fence, really short. It is pretty expensive so I hope it lasts a long time but I can't comment on that right now. This product is great!! I set it up by myself and got it all up and it’s perfect for my goats and my chickens! The only downside is the instructions are not the best but I knew about them already so it wasn’t hard. For someone who might never have dealt with these it might be a little more difficult.
