I should have bought a better pack years ago. This pack served as a carry-on for the plane trip holding 35mm camera, notebook computer, protein bars, kindle and power cords. On the hikes, it carried the 35mm camera, extra lens, 2 water bottles inside, nuts and protein bars and 2 stainless steel water flasks in the outside pockets. Both hikes were 3 1/2 hours each of moderate hard and I never once noticed the weight of felt uncomfortable with the pack. It's good, quality construction with lots of small pockets.
