If you are talking about a small thin gold chain necklace. Even high end full size units have a hard time with small, thin gold chains. You almost need to go with a dedicated gold detector for small gold like that. Something running high a frequency (40+ Khz) This is I think 2 or 3 Khz. Go for what it's meant to do, but it's not going to pick up small gold like a prospecting machine. **Q: Is the battery replaceable** A: The battery in built in unit you will have to send in to be replaced **Q: Can I drop in down into water on a pond and use it that way? How would it alert me?** A: I hope I understand your question correctly. You can set the PulseDive 2-in-1 to alert you by vibration or sound and vibration or sound. There is also a light on top that blinks. **Q: Want to take out on boat for multiple dives. Need to know charge time, approx how long is it to fully charge?** A: I own this metal detector and it works EXCELLENT. The manual says it takes 4 hours to fully charge but my PulseDive only takes about 2 hours to fully charge. The manual says it will hold a charge for 6 hours, but my holds a charge for (very close) to 8 hours. I have the 5.5" black coil and the 8" yellow coil and everything works GREAT! One thing I did notice is, when trying to switch to dive mode, it can be a bit tricky if doing it while in the water on the surface with gloves on, also the unit must be flipped so the underside is facing up and is very horizontal or it may resist going into dive mode, probably way easier to do before entering the water with no gloves on and just deal with it beeping like crazy whenever it senses your gear or try to hold it belly up to disable the metal detection until you can get good and submerged and outstretch it away from you. Overall thrilled with the purchase, spent 4hrs hours in the shallows with 2 steelhp 133 tanks around 10-15ft deep and got the items in the pic will be fun to take to the beach and configure an arm extension with some waterproof gorilla tape or something since they dont seem to make one for it from what the manuf says. Works on anything metal with 6-8in as advertised, nice and sensitive, very few false positives or mineralized rock readings. I noticed when the unit arrived the o-ring had almost 0 lube on it so I used some camera o-ring lube, same stuff I use on my 9000F SeaLife lights and gopros and re-lubed it and should stay nice and sealed and just leave it that way for cleaning and then plan on only taking apart when absolutely necessary or to inspect the o-ring integrity.
