## Overview

The Napoletane 97/25 Modiano deck is a 40-card, authentic Neapolitan-style Italian playing card set made in Italy. ## Description

This deck of cards is an authentic deck of Italian playing cards. Italian playing cards most commonly consist of 40 cards (4 suits from 1-7 and 3 face cards). The three face cards in each deck are the King, Cavallo (calvary man) and Fante (Infantry Man), except in the French region (see below) which uses a Queen instead of a Cavallo. Playing with Italian playing cards gives any player a wonderful historical perspective on this great country.

I take the deck with me everywhere I go, always ready to teach SCOPA or simply play a game or two at a restaurant, while waiting for my food to arrive. Can't go wrong. Great value! Great price! Cards are high quality, just the right amount of thickness & durable!
Review: Perfect - Perfect. They’re the right cards for playing scopa. Plastic material seems durable. The designs on the cards are the same as ones circulating in Napoli area. Such a fun game to play.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What does 97/25 mean?**
A: It's the model number. I called the company and spoke to a customer service representative, this is what she told me. The Napoletane deck seems to be the most popular of authentic Italian card decks, and therefore has more than one model. There are three Napoletane decks produced by Modiano: Napoletane 97-25 (3 1/2" x 2"), Napoletane 97-31 (3 1/2" x 2"), and Napoletane 97-38 (3 1/4" x 2") (sizes given on the Modiano website). Otherwise, the only significant difference appears to be the back design.

**Q: Do I need to buy two decks of these cards to play Scopa?**
A: You can but it is not necessary. One deck is sufficient.

**Q: Does this deck have a queen?**
A: This Italian card deck does not have a queen per se. The 8 is called 'la donna' or woman, the 9 is the horseman and the 10 is the king. All cards..ace to king have 4 suits each....Diamond, cups, spade and wood or stick. Scopa and several other Italian card games are played with this deck. My husband is from Italy and plays with these more than the decks we know here in America.

**Q: What is/are the differences between the napoleante, siciliante, triestine, picieante (or something like that) decks of italian playing cards?**
A: The drawings a figures on the cards are differents.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Just like Nona used
*by L***D on December 27, 2025*

Saw complaints about size, but these are the correct size for traditional italian cards. Good quality with the exact art style I grew up with. A little pricey but worth for a good old fashioned game of Scopa. Colors are vibrant and well done. Cards are solid thickness and withstand shuffling.
