Review: Excellent unit if you understand what you're getting! - My old Klipsch 4.1 computer speakers needed an upgrade. The subwoofer unit (which housed the amp and the inputs and outputs) had gone bad (just the subwoofer) and I did not want to keep around the large sub unit just to drive the four speakers it came with. On the other hand, I wanted a solution that maintained the surround sound capability (I have a Creative Labs Blaster X4 providing the main input). It is VERY difficult to find low-cost solutions that meet these specs! For a long time, I thought my only option was to purchase expensive receivers normally used with home theatre systems. Enter the Nobsound HiFi 5.1 BT Amp. It looked to fit my needs, but initially at $200, I just could not justify the purchase. Additionally, information on the Internet was sparse. However, when the price dropped to $135 this past Black Friday, I finally purchased it. This unit has EXCEEDED my expectations for it. It was actually very easy to set up and the amount of inputs it supports is impressive (USB thumb drive, Bluetooth, optical / coax [two channel only], RCA [2 channel], and 5.1 RCA). I connected the outputs from my Creative Blaster X4 to this via audio-to-RCA plugs, and it works PERFECT! It also supports both active and passive sub units (mine is active). I was initially baffled about why I could only get sound out of the front speakers until I read the manual (imagine that) and learned there was another button I had to hold down to switch between 2.1 and 5.1, even though I had 5.1 audio selected. It's a little confusing but if you look at the front of the unit, you'll see that there's an input source called "5.1" but also a separate setting that represents your speaker configuration, titled "2.1" and "5.1". Once I switched to 5.1 on the speaker configuration, everything worked! As a bonus, I also wanted Bluetooth capability, but my expectations were low on the quality, and I was anticipating having to buy a good quality Bluetooth receiver in the future to plug into this unit. Not a big deal, since it was not the reason why I purchased it. However, I went ahead and tried it out and was blown away. Sound quality was far better than I had expected. I'm not an audiophile, but I know from past experiences, there can be a background noise or volume being too low. By comparison, this came out loud and clean. I will add as a bonus that though BT audio is two-channel at its source, having the unit set to 5.1 speaker configuration allows sound to come through all speakers! It's not true surround sound, but you are truly surrounded by sound if that makes sense. This to me is another bonus I was not expecting. I could not do this previously with my Klipsch unit. The Creative Blaster X4 has some software utilities that can force this, but they're kludgy to work, and affect overall sound quality. So, I just gave up with trying to use the rear channels with two channel sound. Finally, I wasn't sure how the optical connection worked. There was little information about it, but I figured this was only going to be two-channel sound since there was nothing advertised about any surround sound decoding. I was right. You won't be able to feed this unit with anything encoded for surround sound (and at this price, I wouldn't expect it anyway). However, for two channel sound, the optical connection worked and just like the BT input, that if you have 5.1 selected on the speaker configuration, you'll get sound coming out of all the speakers. Overall, this unit has exceeded just about all of my expectations. The housing on the unit appears solid as well. The control knobs work fine (not as smooth as I would like but not expecting much at this price); though be aware that the "treble" and "bass" knobs appear to only apply to USB and BT audio, not for either optical or RCA sources. Using this unit for a few hours did not result in any heat issues, from either the main chassis or from the power brick. I'm VERY pleased with this unit!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Just what I needed to make my gaming machine 5.1
*by E***6 on 20 June 2026*

I've been wanting to be able to get 5.1 sound out of my gaming PC for quite awhile. PC sound is tricky to get right, and I went down a rabbit hole trying to get everything working as I wanted it to. This includes not only 5.1 sound but also 2.1 when I listen to music on my computer. The Nobsound HiFi 5.1 has the potential to do this right, but I needed to understand how sound is processed by a Windows PC and output to my speakers. I previously used a small Fosi Audio amp (which I loved), to help do this but it only had front speakers and a sub out. My rear channel I ran to a set of powered Edifier speakers. I chose the Nobsound for it's small size and versatile connections options. I Velcro the amp under my desk to keep it out of the way and still have it easily accessible. I also bought an additional 24V 6A power supply to use so that I wouldn't have any power sag issues when turning up the volume on a game or music. The problem I had after I got everything connected is, 5.1 sounded great. I had control of the fronts, center and sub all at my finger tips (the rear are powered so they are on their own volume). As soon as I wanted to play music, the sub was a no show. I had set up the Realtek jacks to output 5.1 to the green, blue and pink audio jacks on the back of my PC, and that worked well. But the problem is, even if I switched the Nobsound to 2.1, the sub was just dead. As it turns out, this is not a Nobsound issue at all, but a Windows issue. When I connected all the RCA inputs to back of the Nobsound, I had the FL FR from the green jack, and the Center/Sub from the pink jack. So the only connection to my sub was the RCA LFE channel connection. When Windows plays music, it doesn't see an LFE signal so it turns off the sub out completely. So it wasn't that the Nobsound wasn't playing the sub frequencies, it was that Windows wasn't sending it anything to play. Here's how I worked around this issue. Instead of connecting the subwoofer with the LFE RCA jack from the Nobsound to the sub, I “Y”ed the front left and right speaker outputs from the Nobsound and ran one set to my fronts, and the other set to the High Level inputs on my sub. What this does is allows the sub to see an input from any 2.1 or 5.1 source and strip off the low end frequencies through it's built in low pass filter and output sound. By using this connection method I'm able to get great low frequency sound from my subwoofer in either 5.1 or 2.1 mode. I no longer need to switch the Nobsound between the 2.1 and 5.1 modes because my low frequencies now come directly from the front left and right channels. This is exactly the kind of thing these High Level inputs are for on subwoofer connections. I'll say probably “most” stand alone subs you can buy will have these inputs unless you got the sub with a sound bar or something. The only real difference now, is that I no longer have any front panel control over the subwoofer output level on the Nobsound because that only adjusts the LFE RCA output level (which I no longer have connected to my sub). I suppose I could have left the LFE RCA connected in addition to the right and left High Level inputs since Windows will not output 2.1 channel for music anyway, but I didn't try it and just wanted to keep the connections as simple as possible. Now the whole system sounds great whether I'm listening to music in 2.1 or gaming using 5.1. I do plan on replacing my rear speakers with passive ones, just so I can get more control over my 5.1 level adjustments. I did have to set the sub volume output level from the rear of the sub, but after doing that, the sub volume tracked the front L&R volume output, so you shouldn't have to mess with it much. So the Nobsound did work well and a 5.1 amp for my PC system. It has plenty of power now and I don't even need to monkey around with the front panel switches at all. If you want to have true 5.1 sound from your PC, you will need to re-map the audio jacks using the Realtek app. There's really no device you can buy to get around the Windows limitations, but understanding what's going on is 90% of the battle. The Nobsound was a good choice for me and in the end it worked as I had originally imagined it would.
