They didn't! Very smart packaging, and the set assembles in a few seconds. The one negative involves the plunger. You have to "fold out" the rubber part that goes into the bottom of the bowl, and mine doesn't stay unfolded (as in the pic). It may just be because it's brand new, and I haven't used it yet. I imagine it will eventually be fine. I recommend this set.
