It is 100% cotton and does not have a lining or any measure or any nylon. Unlike many of the things generated presumably by AI in the description. I took a chance because the description and pictures completely had contradictions. This is a 100% cotton hat and is pretty heavy and decent as an anti deer fly hat or to absorb sweat or to keep the sun off. Slightly more heavy durable canvas material than my other similar hat, think as if it's like heavy blue jean material. It might be a bit tight for a size 8, but I wouldn't know. I don't know how the adjustable sizing string works, because I've never had to use it. Just out of the box it fit me fine.Yes, it was disappointing that out of the box it was shaped funny after having been folded in quarters, but that goes away quickly, and since then, I've myself folded it and stuffed it in a pocket several times.
