I found that my hands got really gunky with using water to keep the clay moist, and it was hard to get it all off my hands once I was done. This was my first time using air-dry clay, overall I am really happy with it. I noticed it started to dry as I was working with it, but adding a few droplets of water throughout the process seemed to help a lot. I used a very fine sand paper to smooth out imperfections once it dried (messy process, but it worked well). It took about 48hrs to dry, and after 48hrs the smell went away. I used acrylic paint once it dried and it worked really well. I need enough for ten children to form a life-sized "hand." How many packages should I order.** A: My 2.2 pound block is much smaller than I thought it would be. My friend got a 5 pound box of air-hardening modeling clay (different brand) and that was about the size I was hoping for from this order. **Q: What is the life expectancy of something made from this clay? I've heard of other products becoming powder after a year.** A: It is really hard to say how long it will last. However, keep in mind that it is raw clay that is not being fired or changed in any way but other than letting the water evaporate out of it. It will not last forever, but it could last anywhere from a few weeks to several years. If you want something permanent, consider a ceramic clay that is fired in a kiln. **Q: Does the clay actually dry hard? As in solid and rock steady, or softer and crumbly.** A: Hard. Not hard as a rock; certainly breakable but not soft and not crumbly. Good for plaque, tile, figurines, beads etc **Q: Will the clay dissolve in water after hardening?** A: Yes it does, but I have used a water safe glaze on it after painting and had no issues. I made a sponge bowl for my clay work just to see if it would work and so far after 6 months of use the water has not damaged the sculpture.
