Our siphons use the "Affnan" 2-1 funnel top design that assures an amazingly fast start and no we do not ever use a "trap" at the bottom because traps clog up down the road and cause failures. We also do not use the small "snorkel tube" you may see on other bells as that too gets clogged or breaks seal and we find it totally unnecessary (and very noisy) with our design which allows air to come under the bell and back up the down tube when it comes time to "break siphon". Simple and always trouble free with guaranteed reliable starts and stops. Also, we use a 4" gravel/media guard TO SAVE YOU GROW SPACE and they are easy to rotate in place to cut off any roots that are always trying to grow through any gravel guard. We rotate ours about once a month and that is pretty much ALL the maintenance these siphons ever need. Those 6" guards are unnecessary, expensive to ship and take up way too much of your valuable grow space. Our guards are made of S&D 200lbs per square inch pipe that boasts a larger inner diameter than schedule 40 for bigger hands like mine. Our bells have a porcelain knob held on with a stainless steel screw for easy maintenance (will last forever) or just for having a quick look. Review: Works Well - Bought this product to use in my aquaponics. I had previously purchased this company's instructions on building a aquaponic system. The challenge I had was this system is one size smaller than the size of the holes they told us to drill in the IBS unit. Other than that it works great after I resealed the oversized hole. Review: Helpful and product works - One thing, is if you fill with too low of a flow of water, the siphon will never open up and drain. We thought we could just use a really low flow to save on electricity, and only try and fill it about once an hour. We ended up buying an on / off adjustable interval timer with a much higher flow that fills the tank in 4 minutes, where the old pump took about an hour to fill. So, the interval timer is set to 4 1/2 minutes on, 60 minutes off. - Then, everything worked great, and probably a much better solution in the end, as i believe that slow pump would have probably clogged... The seller was helpful and customized our unit for our height needs and sent out documentation that helped with setup. Drain threading is too short. *by K***O on March 9, 2025* This took more work than it should have to install. The threading between the siphon and the drain pipe needs to be longer so that it can pass through the bottom of the box and still have enough thread sticking out to join the pieces. So I had to use a hole cutter bore on a drill to remove some of the base so that the drain fitting (in grey) can tuck up into the base enough to screw on securely.
