Review: Exceeds expectations - The old power supply I had for my ham radios bit the dust and was beyond repair so I did some research before I replaced it with this one. I was hesitant to buy it because I was wondering what I'd get for only $100 and I still have unfounded prejudice about things made in China. For decades, "Made in China" meant cheap in quality as well as price. Old attitudes die hard. The truth is, I'm finding that electronics made in China are even better than those made in Japan. This power supply is further evidence. What I like about it: 1. It has the look and feel of something well made. There is no cheap plastic feel to it. The knobs aren't loose. Everything is solid. 2. The analog meter, unlike the photograph, has distinct lines and it's easy to read. 3. It is virtually silent. So far, the fan hasn't had a need to come on. 4. The volt and amp meter functions come in very handy. A power supply with a meter is a must-have. 5. There are three ports for power. Snap in output, cigar lighter, and terminal. The convenience of having multiple ports is very nice. 6. I haven't used the variable power feature or the noise off-set, but it's nice to know they're there. 7. It is a fraction of the size of my previous power supply. 8. The price. I can't say this will last a long time because I just got it. And I can't say how it performs when driven to the limit because I've just run it at 8 amps. But so far, I am very pleased. ---------------------------------------------------- Update: I've had it a few weeks now and I'm still pleased with it. Though it says 30 amp, it's really only 25 amp, but that's enough for a 100 watt transmitter. Be aware that the three connector ports are rated differently. Only the back terminal will give you 25 amps. The variable voltage knob works and I can crank it up higher if/when I want. I haven't had to use the noise eliminator because it hasn't been creating any noise. The unit continues to be absolutely silent. One minor disappointment is that the volt meter doesn't show you what voltage you're actually putting out. It's just a gauge what shows what you're setting it for. If you want to see to what extent the voltage will dip with a heavy draw, you'll have to attach an external volt meter. All in all, I'd say that for ham radio, this is the one and only power supply to get. -------------------------- Further update: It's been 7 months now and I still regard this as a very fortunate purchase. There are a lot of power supplies on the market. Prices vary and I hear some of them are junk so I was nervous when I decided to buy this one which is cheaper than most. I think that's why I'm so pleased. Instead of being junk, it's in fact exceptionally good. The fan has gone on only once now so I know it works. The good news is that when it did go on, it was whisper quiet. I had thought the noise offset feature was a useless extra but there have been a couple of times now when it's come in handy. When I'm not using the snap-in port, I now have a small digital volt meter connected. I don't have much need for it but it kind of looks nice. It's one of those volt meters you can get on desertcart for $2.50. I usually leave the unit set to 13.7 volts and forget about it but there have been a couple of occasions when the variable volt feature has come in handy when I wanted to test the performance of a couple of QRP rigs. Primarily, you want a power supply to be there, do the job, remain quiet, and not fail. This power supply does all of that. But I'm also pleased to discover that the added features that I would have gladly done without are actually coming in handy now and then.
Review: Great Power Supply - Its a great power supply it works great. In the picture I have installed a volt meter that is made to plug into a cigarette lighter socket it was cheap to buy on desertcart and is a nice addition to the power supply it gives it a digital voltage readout. The voltage on the digital readout is usually 13.8 and just fluctuates very slightly to a 13.7 I would say that is very stable. I do not get any voltage drop when I am transmitting and so far its staying very cool and it has not had the need for the fan to go on. The adjustable voltage is awesome when I crank it up I see the watt meter reading higher on the radio. I am not hearing any sound from the power supply or any sounds from the supply coming threw the radio. Everything is great!! The price was very good for a supply with all these features like the many connections. I like that it has a cigarette lighter socket works well for connecting a radio you may have that plug on also for the digital volt meter that I have installed. Great addition for only a few dollars. The switch to see volts or amps in the analog gauge is great to see your power draw on amps and seems to work well for a voltage readout also. I would highly recommend this power supply for anyone that wants a nice power supply and the price is great.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this a regulated power source? The manual for my transceiver mentions using a regulated power source.**
A: No this not a regulated power source , but i bet it well work on just about any transceiver you hook it up to with out anyt problems .I have used it on my TS-2000 and my FT-950 and several other vhf/uhf radios works great.

**Q: if anyone uses this for hf bands, does this produce too much noise?**
A: There are multiple harmonics separated by 33kHz, so you would see over a dozen of them on the 80m, 3.5-4.0MHz band. Moreover, they are not stable and will drift, often at 33kHz per minute. I have not tested to find how many HF band are affected, but 40m is as well. Up in the VHF bands, there does not appear to be the same issue. As others have noted, the harmonic can be temporarily shifted away from the frequency you are using, but depending on the drift rate you may have to use it frequently.

**Q: What is the continuouse amp output rating?**
A: As you know the surge is 30 Amps, but continuous on mine at least, is 25. The fan noise is actually not an issue (some folks complain about it) as I have mine sitting on a lower shelf of my desk so there is a buffer. The built in heat sink works and it does get warm if you're running for extended periods of time (>4 hours) but it works like it is suppose to. Haven't noticed any issues with the heat. The variable voltage works well I guess (I use the fixed 13.8v).I've only had it a couple months now so time will tell as it always does with electronics.Overall it's not a bad unit for the price.

**Q: Is the amperage adjustable independently of voltage. I see no knob that allows this? I want to use for metal plating?**
A: Voltage is adjustable but not amps does however have 3 outlets 1 - 30amp 1 - 10 amp and 1 - 3 amp hope this has helped 73. KG5LFK
