I want to use them for a Science experiment but they must be living.** A: No **Q: can i use these to consume phytoplankton in freshwater tank?** A: No. This is coral food. If to much is added it will cause high nutrients that will cause hair algue. Snails, hermit crabs & a sponge for plankton build up. Watch your hours of light & setting levels for the light. If you feed your fish pellets, what I do is pour the amount of pellets you feed into a container. Put a capful of Zoo Plankton in with the pellets. Let the pellets soak up the liquid for 5 minutes and feed to your fish. There are alot of vitamins/nutrients that are added to your pellets now. The fish love this stuff.
